House Painters in Sunset
Doelger row houses and classic stucco bungalows.
The Sunset has the toughest climate for exterior paint in San Francisco. Fog rolls in most afternoons, marine air carries salt, and the sun — when it appears — is harsh. Standard exterior paint specs from sunnier microclimates fail fast here. We use fog-rated systems with mildewcide additives and pay particular attention to substrate moisture before coating.
Most of the housing is Henry Doelger-built row houses from the 1930s–50s with stucco exteriors, plus a thinner stock of newer infill. Stucco crack repair is a near-universal prep item.
Projects we typically do in Sunset
- Stucco body repaints with fog-rated systems
- Hairline crack repair before recoating
- Mildew-resistant interior paints in baths and kitchens
- Trim and garage door restoration
- Whole-row coordination for HOAs
Local considerations
Marine layer means substrate moisture matters — we test moisture content before coating, particularly in fall and winter. Mildewcide-additive paints are nearly mandatory on shaded north faces. Salt corrosion on metal fixtures is constant.

Reviews from Sunset
“Three previous paint jobs failed within 4 years on our Sunset row house. RS spent two full days just on prep — moisture testing, crack repair, alkali primer. Two years in and it looks brand new.”
